Abstract
ABSTRACT Mery Wijayanti, 2018. “The Meaning of the Word Baka in Japanese Oral Communication” A Thesis of Japanese Language and Culture, Faculty of Humanities Diponegoro University, Semarang. Consultant: Maharani Patria Ratna, S.S., M.Hum. This study discusses about the use of the word baka in Japanese oral communication. The word baka is a Japanese word that mean stupid or fool. The purpose of this study was to determine and describe any pragmatics meaning of the word baka embodied in oral communication. The study include in the scope of pragmatic studies using the theory of Searle speech act. The pragmatics meaning of the word baka was analyzed by the qualitative descriptive method. Based on the result of reseacrh that takes the data from the Japanese language dramas, the word baka is included in three illocutionary speech act, namely assertive, directive, and expressive. The word baka also will cause various reactions to the listener in accordance with the current situation or in other word namely perlocutionary speech act.
