Abstract

ABSTRACT Salsabila, Dhia Ardhina. 2018. “Modalitas Epistemik Kamoshirenai, Ni chigainai dan Hazu Da dalam Kalimat Bahasa Jepang”. Thesis, Department of Japanese Language dan Culture, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. The Advisor:Elizabeth Ika Hesti ANR, S.S., M.Hum. This research aims to describe the structure and meaning of kamoshirenai, ni chigainai and hazu da modalities and explain the similarities and differences of predictions that these three modalities. The data in this research were taken from a collection of short stories Mekurayanagi to Nemuru Onna, novels 1Q84, After Dark, and Nejimaki Dori Kuronikuru, and various Japanese websites. The method of data retrieval in this research is research library. Then, to analyze the structure and meaning of kamoshirenai, ni chigainai and hazu da using qualitative descriptive method. Meanwhile, to know the similarities and differences of predictions owned by the three modalities using the agih method with substitutional technique. Based on data analysis, the result show that these epistemic modalities can be attached with verbs, adjective I, adjective Na and nouns. The epistemic modality of kamoshirenai expresses the probability with very low predictions and general opinions. The epistemic modality of ni chigainai expresses the meaning of confidence without any doubt which is subjective derived from the speaker's intuition and has the highest predictive level.
