Abstract

School of Nursing Faculty of Medicine Diponegoro University Semarang, July 2018 ABSTRACT Fera Ayu Fitriyani Quality of Sleep among Critical Care Nurse at Public Hospital in Semarang xiv + 82 Pages + 28 Tables + 3 Images + 11 Attachments Critical care nurse have a higher workload than nurses in other wards. The critical patient condition becomes an additional stressor that can increase anxiety in critical care nurse. In addition, nurses work using a shift work system that can cause disturbances in the circadian rhythm of the body resulting in decreased quality of sleep among critical care nurse. This study aims to determine the Quality of Sleep and it’s dimensions among critical care nurse at public hospital in Semarang. This research was a descriptive survey. Techniques of data collection using total sampling technique, with total respondents were 43 critical care nurses. Instruments in this study used a questionnaire PSQI (Pitssburgh Sleep Quality Index). The results showed that the Quality of Sleep among critical care nurse was bad, with an average score of PSQI 7.9. The majority of critical care nurses said subjectively had good sleep quality, but almost some critical care nurse had inefficient sleep patterns, sleep duration less than 5 hours every days and sleep latency > 60 minutes. In addition, most nurses convey having mild sleep disturbances, minor problems while running daytime activities and only minority who taking sleeping pills for less than 1 week. Therefore, to improve the Quality of Sleep, researcher suggests the nurses to perform simple exercises before bedtime, arranged for a good night's sleep, drink warm milk and chamomile tea before bed, and arranged to waked hours in the morning at the same time each day.
