Abstract

Family is an important aspect that needs to be involved in patient care to optimize the patient's needs. Family involvement in Intensive care unit has not been done optimally. Nurses' attitudes can influence family involvement in patient care. The purpose of this study was to determine the nurse's attitude about the importance of family involvement in caring critical ill patients in intensive care unit. This is a descriptive quantitative research with survey method. The research instrument using FINC-NA questionnaire. One hundred and eighteen critical care nurses were recruited in this study consecutively. The results showed nurses attitudes about the family importance in intensive care unit mostly supportive attitude. The highest supportive attitudes were Fam-CP (70.3%) and Fam-RNC (70.3%), followed by Fam-OR (69.5%), and Fam-B (61.9%). Overall, nurses had a positive attitude to families’ involvement in critical care. Their positive attitudes can be taken account for developing more patient and family-centered care program in intensive unit.
