GAMBARAN TINGKAT DEPRESI WARGA BINAAN MENJELANG BEBAS PADA SEBUAH LAPAS PRIA DI INDONESIA

Abstract

Prisoners being vulnerable to depression due to concern about the negative stigma of the community regarding the status of former prisoners. Research about depression level in male prisoner before releasing was very limited, but there is one research about depression has been done in male prison and found the incidence of depression. The purpose of this study is to describe the depiction of prisoner’s depression level before releasing in a male prison in Indonesia. The model of study is a descriptive survey, with quantitative methods, and a cross-sectional approach to 100 male prisoners before they are free by incidental sampling technique. The results of demographic questionnaire showed that most respondent in the early adult stage at the age of 18-40 years, 72%, senior high school education (middle) 48%, 55% married status, with remaining 0-1 month before releasing 39%. Research respondents with 1-3 years of criminal, with the crime of property alone as much as 34%, and get family visits several times a year and about once a month as much as 24%. The results of the BDI II questionnaire showed that 44% of prisoners were not depressed and 56% had depression with 27% of mild depression, 27% of moderate depression, and 2% severe depression. This suggests that most of the male prisoners are being depressed before they are free, so the correctional nurse needs to prepare the proper home planning for for the prisoner ahead of freedom and can reduce the level of depression.
