Abstract
Patient-centered care is a health service which places patients at the center of care and respects the patients’ values in nursing care. Patient-centered care has four core concepts in its implementation, namely appreciation and respect, information sharing, participation, and collaboration. Patients’ perceptions are an evaluation of the valuable experience of patient satisfaction with the health service which reflects the service process. Patient-centered care needs to be monitored for its implementation based on the patient’s perspectives. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of patients’ perceptions of patient-centered care in the hospital. This study was nonexperimental quantitative research. The samples were 128 respondents recruited using random sampling technique. The results showed that 63.3% of the patients’ perceptions perceived that nurses appreciated the patients, 78.9% perceived that nurses had shared information, 58.6% perceived that nurses had involved the patients, and 77% perceived that the nurses had developed collaboration. This study indicated the majority of respondents perceived that the nurses had appropriately implemented the patient-centered care at the hospital. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that the hospital organizes patient-centered care training to improve the patient-centered services.
