Abstract

The Description of Nurses’ Ability in Performing Adaptation to New Wards in RSUP Dr. Kariadi, Semarang xiv + 83 pages + 8 tables + 2 figures + 21 appendixes Different abilities of nurses in performing adaptation and the adaptation process which does not meet expectation can create a gap in nurses in performing adaptation to new wards. Some physiological problems of adaptation that often appear in nurses experiencing rotation are pale faces and palpitations, where as the psychological ones may include the lack of comfort to interact and tendency of avoidance. The purpose of this study was to identify the nurses’ ability in performing adaptation in new rooms. This study was a desciptive survey with cross-sectional approach. The population were nurses who experienced rotation from the old ward to the new one at RSUP Dr. Kariadi, Semarang. Purposive sampling was used to select the samples of 96 nurses. Data were collected using questionnaires of adaptation process, and analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results showed that the majority of respondents as many as (55.2%). were able to adapt in the new rooms The majority of respondents were also able to adapt physiologically as many as (59.4%), and able to adapt psychologically as many as (52.1%). The results of this study are expected to be a reference for the hospitals in preparing regulations about employee rotation in the new rooms. In addition, nurses are expected to increase motivation in interacting with new friends so that they will feel comfortable and will not experience physiological adaptation reactions such as pale face, heart palpitations, twitches and frequent urination.
