Abstract

Ainur Muhti Ashari Factors Related to Foot Self Care of Diabetes Mellitus Patients xviii + 87 pages + 11 tables + 2 pictures + 15 bar charts + 11 attachments Diabetes Mellitus is chronic metabolic disease due to insulin deficiency and lead to diabetic foot ulcers. That complications can be prevented by performing foot self-care. The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that affect the foot self-care in persons with diabetes mellitus in Puskesmas Rowosari Semarang. This research was a quantitative research with cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling. Retrieving data using questionnaires Diabetic Foot Self-care Questionnaire University of Malaga. Analysis of the data used were univariate and bivariate using chi square and spearman. A total of 112 respondents participated in the study. The majority patient participated in this study were they who age range 41-60 (69,6%), female (78,6%), and suffering from diabetes <10 years(80,4%). The result of this study showed that 52.7% of respondents have a good category on foot self care. Based on the bivariate analysis, factors that affect the foot self-care was received educational experience (p = 0,001), education level (p = 0,001), and have history of ulcers (p = 0,028). In conclusion, more respondents have good foot self-care that it is affected by educational experience, education level, and history of ulcers. Therefore, it is needed to give more information for patients with diabetes in order to apply the foot self-care especially the examination of the feet, nail, using lotion, socks, and the way to get the feet warm.
