Abstract

xv + 62 pages + 14 tables + 2 images + 14 attachments The high rate of diarrhea in Tersono District, Batang District amounted to 823 cases and 230 cases experienced by children aged 5-14 years.One of the prevention of diarrhea is hand washing, but now the practice of hand washing in children is still lacking. Several factors affect handwashing, such as characteristics. The purpose of this research is to know the correlation of children characteristic such as age, class and sex with handwashing practice in SDN Sidalang 01 and 02 Kabupaten Batang. This research uses descriptive correlation quantitative design with cross sectional approach Using total sampling with sample of 123 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire about the characteristics of the handwashing practices adopted from previous studies.The results showed that 52% of the children were low-grade (6-9 years old), 25 children in grade 6 and 50.4% were male, hand-washing practices with poor 51.2% and 48.8% good. Chi-Square correlation test of gender obtained p-value 0,003 (p <0,05) meaning there is relation between sex and handwashing practice, Chi-Square age test obtained p-value 0,000 (p <0,05), meaning there is relation of child age with hand washing practice, Chi-Square class test obtained p-value 0,001 (p <0,05), it means there is class relation with hand washing practice at SDN Sidalang 01 and 02 Regency of Batang. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the school, parents and health workers pay more attention to children's handwashing behavior. Keywords : Wash hands, age, gender, class.
