Abstract

The Correlation between Perceptions and Use of Intrauterine Device (IUD) among Contraceptive Users in Temon Village, Simo Sub-District, Boyolali Regency xvi + 80 Pages + 7 Tables + 5 Figures + 17 Appendixes Intrauterine device (IUD) is a very effective and long-term contraceptive method which is inserted into the uterus and commonly used by women of reproductive age. Negative perceptions about contraception have been a problem of contraceptive use in the society. This growing perception often causes people to be reluctant to use certain methods of contraception. This study aimed to determine the correlation between perception and use of IUD among contraceptive users in Temon Village, Simo, Boyolali. This study was a descriptive correlation with a cross-sectional approach. Purposive sampling was used to select the samples of 206 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire about the perception of IUD use and a questionnaire about the use of contraception. The result showed that 109 respondents (52,9%) had good perception, and 196 respondents (95,1%) used non-IUD contraception. The result of Chi-square test obtained a p-value of 0.002 (p<0.05), indicating that there was a correlation between the perception and use of IUD among contraceptive users. It is recommended that contraceptive users increase their knowledge about types of contraception, benefits and side effects of the use of contraception by attending health education given by health workers, and searching for information from books, leaflets, posters and other media.
