Abstract

Working mothers are a group that is vulnerable to health problems. The high rate of participation of working women should be balanced with adequate health services so that working mothers can avoid working health problems including work stress. Data of work stress in women is high enough that is 1880 cases in which the nurses are one of the workers who experience the highest stress. Mindfulness therapy is developed as a supportive educative therapy to reduce stress levels. This therapy is a self-awareness exercise to improve social relationships and life satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of awareness on the level of stress on mothers who work as critical care nurses. This study used quasi-experimental design with pre-post with control group. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling technique. The number of respondents for each intervention and control group was 23 respondents. The study was conducted in April 2018 with the treatment of mindfulness S.T.O.P. Data were analyzed using Man-Whitney test. The result showed that mindfulness had an effect on the decrease of stress level with p.value = 0.001 in the intervention group, while in the control group there was no effect with the p.value = 0.068. The result of mean difference in the intervention and control group obtained p.value = 0.001 so that it could be concluded there were significant difference of stress level in the intervention and control group. The study concluded that mindfulness can reduce stress levels in physiological, psychological and behavioral aspects by giving a positive psychological effect, decreasing reactivity behavior to emotions and improving the regulation of positive behavior.
