The advisor are Dr. Redyanto Noor, M.Hum. and Drs. Mulyo Hadi Purnomo, M.Hum. “Sepotong Senja untuk Pacarku” or “A Slice of Sunset for My sweetheart” short story presents us a high metaphor work developed from things that are considered as a cliche issue, such as slicing sunset for the sweetheart as a cliché phrase which makes the reader stunned after reading this short story. The use of language style invites the reader to imagine higher and reveal the different perceptions of the readers about sunset. Therefore, the author chooses this object as the object of research about how the reader reception towards the short story. Theory of literary receptions is use as the theory, especially in terms of benefits and responses of readers after reading "Sepotong Senja untuk Pacarku" short story. This theory aims to examine the opinion and response of the readers after reading this short story in terms of benefits and responses, as the literary works can not be separated from the readers who assess the literary work. The results of this study explain interest in reading the literary works of Indonesian Literature Students is still low. The student assessment of the short story "Sepotong Senja untuk Pacarku" is not affected by those who have or have not read yet this short story and it is not affected by the level of reading frequency. Thus, the students assess "Sepotong Senja untuk Pacarku" short story in accordance to their opinion about the contents of this short story. Students state that the short story of "Sepotong Senja untuk Pacarku" is interesting viewed by the use of language style. However, the second thing that is considered as the good thing of this story after the style of language has a diferrence perception by those who have already read and those who have never read the story. Students who have already read beforehand prefer on the theme whereas those who have never read prefer on the plots. The benefits they gained are influenced by the emotions which they feel, namely normal, happy, or sad. Their responses mostly say that this short story is interesting in terms of the use of the language style and the clarity of theme. It is provides the originality, also fresh and different perspectives as well to the reader after reading this short story. Keywords: Literary Work, Short Story, readers, literary reception, responses
