Abstract

ABSTRACT This thesis discusses imagery, figurative language and diction that exist in album Tsugi No Ashiatoby AKB48 as the singer. The purpose of this study is to describe the imagery, figurative language and diction used by the song writer in lyric, thus the song meaning can be delivered properly. In this thesis, there are five songs in album Tsugi No Ashiato for its materials.Those are After Rain, Koi Suru Fortune Cookie, Otona E No Michi, Watashi RIIFU andSIMIRU Kamikakushi. Those are analyzed with stylistics theory. The theory is used for the discovery of imagery, figurative language and diction in the song lyrics. This study concludes that; based on five songs that are discussed, there are some discoveries of imagery, figurative language and diction used by the song writer. The types of imagery are visual imagery, auditory imagery and tactile imagery. The figurative languages such as metaphor, simile, hyperbole and synecdoche pars pro toto are used by the song writer. There arealso a lot of connotative diction such as in the word ame, hana, sora, riifu, amegumo, namida, and many more. Keywords: diction, figurative language, imagery, stylistica
