Abstract

Cultivating no blame culture in the hospital is one of the efforts to improve patient safety. No blame culture means focusing on the hospital system which needs improvement instead of focusing on individuals who perform the incidents. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of no blame culture in patient safety at RSUD dr. H.Soewondo Kendal. This study was a quantitative research with a descriptive survey method. The samples were 157 nurses who were recruited using proportional random sampling. The results showed that more than half of respondents (54.8%) rated no blame culture in patient safety as good, while the remaining (45.2%) rated it as very good. In the implementation of no blame culture, the aspects of reporting, learning, and speaking up were rated as good (40%), very good (73.2%), and very good (55.4%), respectively. Similarly, the aspects of management, openness, fairness, and trust were also rated as good (67.5%), good (54.8%), good (54.1%), and very good (60.5%), respectively. Furthermore, the aspects of psychological safety, fear, education, and blaming were respectively rated as good (51%), good (56.1%), good (54.1%) and good (42.7%). Therefore, it could be concluded that the no blame culture in patient safety was categorized as good. Based on these findings, it is suggested that the hospital maintain the implementation of no blame culture and that the nurses need to improve things in every aspect of no blame culture that is still lacking.
