Abstract

Kata kunci: pembakaran, alat pembakar sampah, variasi sistem pertama, variasi sistem kedua, nilai opasitas Abstract Waste management in Semarang City only serves 85% of the total population. It is caused due to the lack of infrastructure for the collecting, transportating, processing and disposal of waste in underserved areas. The generation of waste generated in the underserved areas is only discarded in illegal TPS without any special treatment other than burned. Burning waste is an easy process of waste management. However, with the presence of combustion, can result in adverse effects to health. The residual of combustion is smoke containing various pollutant compounds. Therefore, need for incinerator with a unit contaminant control in order to minimize the smoke produced. In addition, it is necessary to monitor the air emission quality to determine the value of smoke opacity of a burning material. Incinerators designed using the principles of the smoke produced from burning may come into contact with water. To determine the performance of the incinerator, then do designing into two system variations. System variations on the incinerator is located at the contact chamber smoke with water. The first system variation uses the principle of spreading water on the smoke generated from combustion. While the second system variation uses the principle of passing smoke on submerged water. The composition of waste burned on this incinerator are 38.115% leaf, 3.458% branch, and food waste 20.475%. Measurement of opacity value is performed on inlet and outlet of incinerator. The result is a decline in the value of the opacity of the smoke on the first system variation. While in the second system variation, can not lower the value of opacity. Keywords: burning, incinerator, first system variation, second system variation, opacity values
