Abstract

The emergence of new media impact on culture change user information access. Mediation and mediatization in the library media theory viewed from the perspective of interest to be described and discussed. Media technology enables instant communication with user anywhere and anytime, so that interaction does not require the parties to be in the same room and at the same time. This paper aims to explain the concept of mediation and mediatization, knowing where mediatization in the library, as well as identifying culture user information access behavior has changed. The discussion refers mediatization and spectacle theories, then try to articulate to explain how the new media exposure affects the library. Mediation is more highlight the technical aspects of how communication takes place. Mediation is often too general, while mediatization is specific. Mediatization in the library discussed with a view to understanding the importance of the media in media relations related to the cultural and socio-cultural change in the library. Information access behavior is now mediated by technology. Mediatization deals with the influence of media, namely as a social process characterized user become saturated and flooded by media technology, causing between media and user can no longer be separated. That is a change of social relations or interactions that changed the way of communication and interaction between librarians and users. Progress and development of media technology in the library have an impact on behavior change user in accessing information. Likewise, media changes cause changes in the library. The culture change behavior mediatization information associated with the library can be identified from various aspects, such as availability of collection, space of library, networking, reference, competence, and social interaction.
