Abstract
Kata kunci: Indeks Massa Tubuh, Panjang Depa, Tinggi Lutut Background: On elderly who have lost ability to stand upright, arm span and knee height are used as the predictors for stature. However, these predictors caused overestimation and underestimation of BMI among different gender. There is no study which combine these two measurements for predicting height to obtain the closest height to the actual stature. Method: This study was done on observational with a cross sectional design. The study population were963 elderly aged 60-69 years old in Wonogiri District. The subject were 136 elderlies: 65 men and 71 women which were choosen by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through observations, anthropometric measurements and interviews. Data were analyzed by Pearson Product Moment, T-Test, and Linear Regression method. Result: Arm span was more accurate on women (r=0.993; p<0.001) compere to men (r=0.886; p<0.001), whereas knee height was more accurate in men (r=0.929; p<0.001) compare to women (r=0.986; p<0.001). There was no difference between actual BMI and predicting BMI which calculated from combined predictors in men (p=0.904) and women (p=0.184). There was 12.5% overestimation in overweight status of men and underweight status of women based on predicting BMI from the combined predictors. Conclusions: Both, arm span and knee height which used together are the best predictors for the actual height among elderlies. Keywords: Body Mass Index, Arm Span, Knee Height
