Abstract

Effects of Logotherapy on Chronic Sorrow in Patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) is the complications chronic in people with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) that can lead to the impact of both physical and psychological. One of psychological impacts that can occur is chronic sorrow. Chronic sorrow is a natural reaction of the lost, but if it is not treated, chronic sorrow can be progressive and develops into depression. One of therapies is often used to handle the negative emotions as chronic sorrow is Logotherapy. Logotherapy is a counseling therapy which aims to find out the meaning of life. This study aimed to investigate the effects of logotherapy on chronic sorrow in patients with DFU. This study was a quasi-experiment with a pre and posttest control group design, with each group consists of 16 respondents. Population in this study is DFU patients getting inpatient care in three hospital in the city of Bandung. The sampling technique is done by purposive sampling approach, with the inclusive criteria respondents diagnosed by DFU with the classification of Wagner ≥ 2, aged adults 19-59 years. Logotherapy was done as much as 4 session in 4 times meeting, where each session length 45 minutes. The univariate analysis was done to see the frequency or average each variable research and the bivariate analysis to analyze the influence of logotherapy using Wilxoson and Mann Whitney statistical test. The results of the total 32 respondents with average age of 52,84 years is that they have diabetes is for 6 years long, and the average of DFU experience is 33,59 day. The Wilxoson statistical test shows the average score of chronic sorrow on intervention group before logotherapy is 4,94 and after having given logotherapy decreased of 3,23 (P-value = 0,000). The sstatistical analysis with Mann Whitney shows an average score of chronic sorrow in the control group having given the intervention of 5,00 and at the intervention group of 3,23 (P-value = 0.00 and α = 0,05). Logotherapy had significant effects on decreasing the signs of chronic sorrow in DFU patients. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that logotherapy can be implemented in DFU patients who experience chronic sorrow.
