Abstract

ABSTRACT Untsa Shofwati, 2018. “the Inner Conflict of the two main charactersin the Utsukushisa to Kanashimi to Novel by Yasunari Kawabata:A Study of Psychological Literature”.Thesis, Japanese Literature, Diponegoro University, Semarang.AdvisorBudi Mulyadi, S.Pd., M.Hum. The purposes of this study are to reveal the intrinsic elements in the Utsukushisa to Kanashimi to novel,as well as the inner conflicts of two main characters Otoko and Oki in the Utsukushisa to Kanashimi to novel..This research uses novel as the object of study with the title Utsukushisa to Kanashimi to. The method used in this research is using structural methods to analyze the elements of intrinsic,then used psychological approach literature for data related to the main character,using the theory of literary psychology to know the inner conflicts that occurred in the two main characters in the novel. The results of this study indicate that the two main characters experience inner conflict. Its approaching-approaching, approaching-avoiding, and avoiding-avoidance conflict.The inner conflicts experienced by Otoko characters are dominated by the character or nature of the faithful Otoko,The inner conflict experienced by Oki character is influenced by the character or nature of Oki that has Playboy.
