The First Advisor Dra. Sri Puji Astuti, M.Pd. The Second Advisor Maharani Patria Ratna, S.S., M.Hum. One of the culture of Japanese people is they tend to avoid straightforward way to speaking. This culture may lead some misunderstanding to foreigner that doesn’t know about this culture. So, this research will analysed the way of Japanese people speak through the using of literal and indirect speech act in Ao Haru Ride anime. The aims of this research are: 1. To explain the change of sentence mode of literal and indirect speech act. 2. To explain the effect or perlocution of sentence mode’s changes to the partner. The study uses descriptive method with qualitative approach to analyze the using of literal and indirect speech act in Ao Haru Ride anime. The stages of this study are; first, classifying literal and indirect speech act from the data resource, second analysing the change of sentence mode using Wijana’s and Searle’s speech act theory, and the last was analysing the effect or perlocution of sentence mode’s changes to the partner. Based on the analysis, 37 datas were provided and categorized in 5 sentence mode’s changes, there are; 26 declarative to imperative changes, 5 interrogative to imperative changes, 3 interrogative to declarative changes, 2 declarative to interrogative changes, and 1 imperative to declarative change. Declarative to imperative changes is the dominant changes which is 26 from 37 datas. Effect or perlocution of sentence mode’s changes to the partner is categorized in 17 perlocution verbs. There are; convincing verbs, deceiving verbs, advising verbs, encouraging verbs, annoyying verbs, vexing verbs, frightening verbs, boring verbs, captivating verb, ridiculing verb, inspiring verb, redirecting verbs, confusing verbs, slackening verbs, ashaming verbs, complicating verb, attentioning verbs, and relieve tension. Perlocution that appearing often are inspiring and frightening which both are 4 datas. Keywords: literal, indirect speech act, sentence mode, perlocution
