ABSTRACT Firmansah, Rizki. 2018. “Directive Speech Acts in Anime Kuroshitsuji : Book of Circus”. Thesis, Language and Culture of Japanese, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University, Semarang. The First Advisor Maharani Patria Ratna, S.S, M.Hum. The Second Advisor Elizabeth I.H.A.N.R., S.S, M.Hum. The study has two goals. The first one is to describe the meaning of directive speech acts by character named Sebastian Michaelis in the anime Kuroshitsuji : Book of Circus. The second one is to describe the response of the partners to the character Sebastian Michaelis in the anime Kuroshitsuji : Book of Circus. The study used conversational dialogue from the character named Sebastian Michaelis as a data resource and used a descriptive method. The data were obtained from using the refer-to-the-note method. Contextual method was used for analyzing the data. Last but not least, informal method was used for presenting the data. Based on the result of the analysis, 19 data were found; 5 data are directive speech acts with the meaning of command, 11 data are directive speech acts with the meaning of request, 1 data directive speech act with the meaning of prohibition, 1 data directive speech act with the meaning of permit, and 1 data directive speech act with the meaning of advice. Then from 19 data were found 16 positive responses and 3 negative responses.
