Abstract

Ebony leaf monkey is an endemic species in Java and Bali. Nowadays its habitat is threatened and the population is decreasing continuously. Conservation efforts to avoid their extinction need to be done accurate and urgently. Up to date data about their population is important to be reported. The main purpose of this research was to analyze ebony leaf monkey conservation strategy through their population and habitat identification, community perception about their sustainability and habitat and also the influential factors to the ebony leaf monkeys conservation. This research was collected in April to Juli 2017 in Kecubung Ulolanang Nature Preservation using survey and observation method (purposive sampling) with concentration count method. The community perception data collected by questionnaires, while institutional and organizational data was collected by interviews with field officers and area managers and also literature study. Data analysis was using quantitative descriptive method. Observation result revealed that the estimated population density, devided in 3 groups and total population sizes were 43 individuals whind indicated the progressive population. The sex ratio of male to females was 1:6 with the natality value was 0,7, and the infant to juvenile mortality value was 0,45 while the juvenile to adult mortality value was 0,08. Species with the highest IVI at seedling growth stage was paku bang (Stenochlaena polustris) 22.85%, at sapling growth stage was mlinjo (Gnetum gnemon) 27.31%, at pole stage was mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni) 58.5% and at the tree stage was teak (Tectona grandis) 49.3%. The Gondang Village community perception of ebony leaf monkey’s conservation and habitat was positive and very positive. The ebony leaf monkey concervation affecting factors was the food trees density (X2). According to the research, the ebony leaf monkey conservation strategy were (i) habitat management, (ii) population management and (iii) gaining support to conserve the ebony leaf monkey with Perum Perhutani.
