Abstract

MODIFICATION OF THE AIR DUCT CONTINUOUS VIBRATING FLUIDIZED BED DRYER & TESTING IN TEMPERATURE WORK 60°C Continuous Vibrating Fluidized Bed Dryer (CVFBD) is a dryer that using fluidization principle with addition of vibration system from motor vibro, it can be minimized the air speed. In the drying process, the heat source was came from gas fuel LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gasses) that environmentally friendly. CVFBD has lack of uneven airflow distribution so the device performance is not maximal, then it is required modification on the air duct. The process modification in some parts of CVFBD is : firts was adding a funnel, second was adding a baffle, and third was narrows the air output on the outflow of material. To know the most optimal airflow distribution required the test of airflow rate was carried out on bed by various the angle of baffle, the other side required for CVFBD performing testing to find out performance of CVFBD after modification. The result obtained from airflow rate testing and performing testing of CVFBD is : the most optimal airflow distribution lies in the slope of the baffle angle 1 for 20°, baffle 2 for 35° and baffle 3 for 35°, with deviation value of 0,44. The time it takes to dry 0,5 kg of celery leaves is 73 minutes at a temperature work 60ºC by producing 0,0586 kg of celery leaves with water content of 11,72% and the required of CVFBD electrical power is equal to 1,14 kW. Keyword : Dryer, vibrating, CVFBD, celery leaves, air flow
