Abstract

ABSTRACT Nugraha, Arief Listya. “Motivation that Drives the Character Nine’s Act of Terrorism in the Anime Zankyou no Terror”. Thesis, Japanese Literature, Diponegoro University, Semarang. Counsellor Fajria Noviana, S.S., M.Hum. In the literature works, psychological elements can be portrayed implicitly in the behavior of its characters. Comprehensive understanding about psychological science related to motivation that drives the occurence of certain action is strongly needed to understand what cause certain behavior of the characters. The aim of this research is to analyze the motivation that drives character Nine to commit terrorism in the anime Zankyou no Terror. The method that is used in this research is descriptive qualitative method supported by literature study. The approach that is used in this research is narrative, intrinsic drama, and psychologycal approaches. Narrative approach is used to analyze Zankyou no Terror’s character and its relation to space and time. Intrinsic drama approach is used to analyze the setting which focused on circumstance and social settings. Literature psychology approach with the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory is used to analyze the motivation that drives character Nine to commit terrorism. The result of this research is the invention of a certain motivation that drives character Nine to commit terrorism, which is the fulfillment of the need of self-actualization in the form of his hope, which is to be remembered by the society. The conclusion is Nine had commited terrorism in the hope to gain people’s attention so that he can expose the dark side of japanese government which is the failure of “Athens Plan” project which in the end leads him to achieve his hope stated before.
