Abstract
Department of Nursing Medical Faculty Diponegoro University January, 2018 ABSTRACT Dewi Catur Mei Ningrum Descriptive Study of Therapeutic Communication in Psychiatric Nurse xiv + 96 Page + 10 Table + 1 Images + 23 Attachments Health communication is a part of human communication that is reasonable between health workers, patients and families of patients. In the field of psychiatric nursing, this communication called with therapeutic communication. Therapeutic communication is an interpersonal relationship between nurses and patients, where nurses and patients have shared learning experiences in order to improve the patient's emotional experience. Therapeutic communication between nurses and patients are important in mental hospital. The interactive process between patients and nurses can help patients cope with temporary stress. Less optimal of therapeutic communication can feared impact on the ineffective nursing care process in psychiatric patients. The purpose of this research is to know the description of therapeutic communication skills in psychiatric nurse on verbal and non-verbal aspects. This quantitative research used descriptive survey design. The sampling technique used simple random sampling with total of 109 samples. The results showed that as many as 1.8% of respondents (2 people) are knowledgeable enough, 19.3% of respondents (21 people) are knowledgeable, 62.4% of respondents (68 people) are well knowledgeable and 16.5% of respondents (18 persons) very knowledgeable. Based on the results of the research, some nurses have well therapeutic communication. Recommendation for psychiatric nurses is the optimization of therapeutic communication according with the references.
