Abstract
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is one type of infectious disease caused by the dengue virus. Mosquito Nest Eradication (MNE) behaviors are the activities undertaken to prevent and combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The MNE can be done by practicing the 3M plus activities. In addition, it can also be supported by practicing some other activities such as maintaining the larvae-eating fish, setting up a wire gauze, avoiding the habit of hanging clothes, using the mosquito nets in the bedroom and taking medications which prevent mosquito bites. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships between the MNE behaviors and the DHF incidence in Sojomerto village, Reban, Batang. This study employed a descriptive correlative design. The population was all residents of the Sojomerto village as many as 709 families. The samples were 282 families recruited by the cluster sampling technique. The instrument used in this study was the questionnaire of MNE behaviors. The results of the chi-square test showed a p-value of 0.000 for draining activity, a p-value of 0.000 for sealing the water reservoirs, a p-value of 0.000 for getting rid of / recycling the used goods, a p-value of 0.000 for raising the larvae-eating fish, a p-value of 0.036 for the use of wire gauze, a p-value of 0.000 for the activity of hanging clothes in the house, a p-value of 0.018 for the habits of using mosquito nets in the bedroom, and the p-value of 0.000 for taking medication to prevent from mosquito bites. These results indicated a relationship between the MNE behaviors and the DHF incidence in Sojomerto Village of Reban Sub-district in Batang Regency. Based on the findings, it is suggested that the MNE activities should be conducted once a week and involve the participation of all the people in the targeted area.
