Abstract

The emergence of an uneven movement of gender dancers' genders into the background of this study. The shift in the form of performances by not based on traditional art is the main problem because it can change the value and identity of the Purworejo community. The purpose of this research is to understand the local identity through Dolalak art as a description of Purworejo community identity. This research uses descriptive qualitative research method with ethnographic approach of social semiotics. Data analysis uses the concept of space, time, interaction, and rule. The theory used is The Theory of Performance by Richard Schechner, Social Identity Theory and Social Semiotics by Michael A.K. Halliday, and The Theory of Cultural Schemes by William B. Gudykunst. The speakers in this study consisted of eight subjects, including three people as the head of the Dolalak group, a coach builder, and four dancers. The result of the research shows that there is a shift in the Dolalak art that can be seen by looking at the three groups, namely Dolalak Putra group, Dolalak daughter group, and Studio. Looking at the three groups leads to the conclusion that the local identity found in the three groups varies. So that folk art which is then formed as a new art has the power to reduce existing social values and identity in the form of traditional Dolalak. The emerging shift can be interpreted as the social dynamics that occurred in the Purworejo community.
