Abstract
Siti Juwariyah The Influence of Suportive Education on the Level of Independence of Activity Daily Living in Elderly with Hypertension xvii. + 97 pages + 11 tables + 5 figures + 7 appendices Hypertension in elderly is an increase in systolic blood pressure above 140 mmHg and diastolic pressure 90 mmHg. The elderly with hypertension which is untreated prove to have a shortening period of about 10-20 years which will affect the physical inability of the elderly. Hypertension due to the aging process leads to disability that will affect the elderly in carrying out their daily activities. The impact of hypertension in elderly who have low level of independence of Activity Daily Living (ADL) will increase the burden of family, community and government. Provision of supportive education of ADL independence is useful for the independence of the elderly with hypertension in the fulfillment of daily needs. The purpose of this study was determine the influence of supportive education on the level of independence of ADL in the elderly with hypertension. This study is a kind of quantitative design with quasi-experiment design with pre-post test with control group design. The samples were 60 subjects selected by purposive sampling technique in accordance with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The samples were divided into 2 groups, which were the intervention group (n=30) and control group (n=30). Intervention in supportive education was given four times in four weeks. The results of this study showed that the intervention group obtained p-value=0.000 and α=0.05, in which the p-value was < α or p-value was < 0.05, indicating that there were effects of supportive education on the level of ADL of the elderly with hypertension. The control group yielded p-value=1.000 and α=0.05, in which p-value was > α or xp-value was > 0.05, meaning no significant differences in the ADL independence level were found.
