Abdullah, M.A. Wirasat Sapi'i (WS) is a manuscript containing the hymn on the human face (physiognomy) which the meanings wererevealed by the Imam Sapi'i. The WSmanuscript was found by the writer found in the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta, with the dial number Br 8. This study aims to create and present the descriptions, text editing as well as the translation of WS text and to explain the meanings of human characters based on their facial signs revealed by Imam Shafi'i. There are two theories used in the text analysis; philological and semiotic analysis. The philological analysis is done through the stages of manuscript description, transliteration, text editing, and translation. Next, the semiotic one is used for the analysis of the text in order to identify the meanings of human characters accordingto the facial signs contained in the text through heuristic and hermeneutic readings. The results of the research on Wirasat Sapi’i manuscript shows that the meanings applied to the text of WS contain the physiognamy on pupuh dhandanggula consisting of eight aspects about a person’s characters seen from the shape and colour of the limbs, especially in the face. The eight aspects in clude 1) head, 2) hair, 3) forehead, 4) eyebrows, 5) ears, 6) eyes, 7) nose, and 8) lips. Of eight members of the body on the face are important for semiotic analysis, namely through heuristic readings and hermeneutic readings to express the meaning of the existing hymns in pupuh dhandanggula which can be explained from the eight members of the body on the face shows the good and bad behavior of humans are very different-different, that is seen from the shape and color of each member of the human body.
