Abstract

Abstract Ummah, Listi Athifatul. 2017. Social Critics of Novel "Kazoku Game". Thesis of Japanese Department, First supervisor: Yuliani Rahmah, S.Pd, M.Hum. Second supervisor: Arsi Widiandari, S.S, M.Si. After World War II in Showa era, Japan experienced a turbulent change of social situation. The defeat of World War II made the Japanese determined to prove themselves to move forward and rise again. As a result, to achieve this, various pressures were undertaken by the Japanese government in all fields. Education is no exception. Indirectly, the Japanese people are required to be highly educated and mastered various sciences. This then spurred Japanese parents as much as possible to make their children educated as high as possible, especially to their boys. The influence of the patriarchal system and the thought of gaku reki shakai on Japanese families made them rely on Japanese men to be highly educated because they consider the future of Japan was to be the responsibility of Japanese men. At that time, the pressure of parents on their boys in Japan on education indirectly happened. It then raised serious social problems within and outside the family. It was includes ijime issues. Ijime in Japan is no longer new issue in Japan. The rose of the ijime case and other social issues at the time then prompted various artists to express their criticism through their fields. No exception Youhei Honma, author of Kazoku Game novel. This research will use the literature method to examine the social criticisms contained in the novel Kazoku Game. In addition, as a supporter, researchers will also analyze elements of intrinsic elements in the novel Kazoku Game. The results to be achieved in this research is the disclosure of social criticism contained in the novel Kazoku Game and how it relates to the phenomenon of social problems at the time the novel was published.
