Abstract
Palliative care is a treatment that aims to improve the quality of life of cancer patients to the end of their lives by maximizing the quality of life of patients. Patients with cancer experience suffering requiring an integrated approach from various disciplines, especially nurses. The lack of nurse knowledge about palliative care is an obstacle in providing optimal service because it can not help cancer patients to live more comfortably. This study aims to identify the level of knowledge of nurses about palliative care in cancer patients. This research used descriptive research method. The sampling technique used was total sampling with total sample of 162 respondents. The results of this study are 148 (91.4%) nurses have good knowledge, and 14 (8.6%) nurses have sufficient knowledge about palliative care in cancer patients. More than half of the nurses (58%) had sufficient knowledge on the concept of pain in palliative care and 31% of nurses were less able to understand the notion of palliative care. Advice for hospitals to establish cooperation with educational institutions in providing non-formal education to nurses in the form of seminars or training so that can improve the quality of palliative care services for patients.
