Abstract

Daun Salam (Sygyzium polyanthum wigh Walp) Is one of the plants that have the potential to produce essential oils. Bay leaves contain fiber, essential oils, sitral, tannins, flavonoids, metal kavikol, saturated fat, PUFA and MUFA. These leaves also contain vitamins A, B, C, and D, as well as calcium, iron and potassium. The process of extracting the oil leaves one using water steam distillation method. The time when the distillation process may affect the amount of oil produced and the magnitude of the refractive index is obtained. The longer the time ditilasi rminyak then the amount will be more and the oil quality will be better. Based on the results of lab work best is when the distillation 5 hours obtained oil volume of 3.2 ml, with a refractive index that is d20 20 1.010 with% salinity: 14%. Keywords: Daun Salam, Salam Leaf Oil, Distillation
