Abstract
Essential oils are derived from lime leaves are used in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, flavors, perfumes, dyes and others. In kaffir lime leaf oil deposits may citronellal, citronellol, linalol, and geraniol. The purpose of this lab is to megetahui yield value, viscosity and density based on the length of time refining and heating. Kaffir lime leaf oil is usually distilled using steam distillation of water with a long 4-6 hours gained 2.77% oil yield. But if you use the method of extracting more oil yields as many as 3.50%. The main component in the essential oil that is sitronellal. The working principle of steam distillation is distillation boiler filled with water up to the limit of the filter. Lime leaves placed on a sieve, so it does not deal directly with boiling water, but will be in contact with moisture. The evaporated water will carry particles of volatile oil and piped to a cooling device, resulting in condensation and water vapor is mixed with the essential oil will melt back. Furthermore flowed to a separator to separate the essential oils from the water. Raw materials lab is used to 5kg with oil revenues lime leaves most good, namely in the variable heating low heat with a time of 2 hours with oil colors yellow translucent pale, the value yield of 0.159%, the value of the density of 0.823 g / ml and viscosity grades 7, 65 Cp. Keywords: water steam distillation, kaffir lime leaves, yield
