Abstract
Digester is a vessel where the cooking process or reaction delignification of wood chips takes place. With the addition of a solution of the chemical cookers, heat, and pressure of the lignin will be dissolved and converted into pulp wood chips. In designing this tool have dimensions digester include: tank diameter: 35 cm, height tank: 50 cm, plate thickness: 0.12 cm, Impeller diameter: 23.07 centimeters, stirrer speed: 2800 rpm and a capacity of 20 liters. Pulping process can use non-wood raw materials, one of which is waste corn husk. The content of corn husk consisting of cellulose 36.81%, 27.01% hemicellulose, lignin 15.70%, ash 6.04%, and the water content of 14.44%. Pulping aims to get as much fiber as possible as indicated by the value of high yield with a minimum lignin content. The purpose of this experiment is to determine the optimum conditions in the pulping digester tool corn husks. Pulping process stages from corn husk that is: (1) skin dry corn is cut, (2) cooking in the digester, (3) pulp is filtered, and (4) pulp was analyzed. The variables that best results are there on trial 4 wherein the temperature used is 115 0C and ripening time of 40 minutes. The results of the experiment 4 obtained a yield of 310 g and the moisture content is not too high at 8.2%. Keywords: Digester, Corn’s Skin, Pulp
