Abstract

Lemongrass plant is one kind of grass - grass that is an annual plant species that form a thick clump with a height of up to 2 meters. The scientific name Cymbopogon citaratus. Citronella oil obtained from the distillation of the leaves or stems of plants lemongrass. Lemongrass oil is a source and sitronellal geraniol, citronella oil quality is determined by the content of these two components mainly sitronella.Lemongrass oil refining aims to determine the effect of long distillation to the yield and quality of citronella oil produced. Citronella oil can be isolated from the leaves of citronella using steam distillation method. Raw materials used 5kg citrus leaves for variable heating medium and small fire with water solvent. Data were collected for oil extraction in the can on a small flame heating variable 1-2 hours to get the yield of 0% and 3 hours to get oil by 5ml yield 0.139%, 4hr gets oil with a yield of 1.2 ml of 0.034% and 5 hours to get oil 1 ml yield 0.028%. Heating oil over medium heat gain more variable number 1 -2 hours do not get oil and total yield of 0%, for variable 3 hours to get oil of 5.3 ml to yield 0.084%, 4 hours to get oil of 4.4 ml with a yield of 0.072%, and 5 hours of obtaining oil 1ml with a yield of 09.018%, most excellent oil obtained is variable with heating oil at medium heat with a time of 3 hours - 4 hours distillation with a yield that is quite nice.citronella oil which obtained a yellow clear distinctive smell of lemongrass and has a density of heating a small fire in 3 hours get 0.838 g / ml, 4 hours 0.841 g / ml, 5 hours of 0.85 g / ml while the heating medium heat gain density within 3 hours 794 gr / ml, 4 hours of 0.83 g / ml and 5 hours of 0.84 g / m. ; viscosities obtained at variable pemnasa low heat with a time of 11.147 cp 3 hours, 4 hours and 5 hours 11.98 11.76 cp cp variable flame heating is gaining 15.83 cp viscosity
