Abstract
Water is a chemical compound that is essential for the survival of living beings. The function of water for life can not be replaced by other compounds. The need for water is very complex, among others for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing, laboratory requirements and so forth. Aquades distilled is pure water (H2O) are used for laboratory needs since water is free of impurities and is suitable for solvent chemicals. But distilled water is still very difficult to obtain and the price is relatively expensive. Sand filters can be an alternative treatment contaminated well water into drinking water, distilled water and household water. The screening process is a combination of physical processes (filtration, sedimentation and adsorption), biochemical processes and biological processes. The sand filter is suitable to process raw water which has moderate to low turbidity and dissolved oxygen concentration is moderate to high. The process that occurs on the sand filter is the separation of water with suspended particles, colloids and bacteria by passing the water in porous media is a layer of granular sand, crushed stone, antrachit, glass and activated charcoal. Sand filters are equipped with the technology of reverse osmosis (RO) one of which is for potable water treatment technology. One significant feature of the system of reverse osmosis (RO) is the presence of the membrane (semipermeable membrane). Semipermeable membranes must be penetrated by the solvent, but not by the solute. In the research, the well water is passed into the sand filter becomes feasible to use distilled water. Judging from the organoleptic test, Total Solid test and organoleptic test of product water (distilled water).
