Abstract

Nutritional needs of infants aged 6-24 months are not sufficient only with breast milk, thus requiring complementary foods of breast milk. Complementary feeding not only takes into account the age of administration, but also considers frequency, portion, consistency / texture, and variety of foods. Good complementary feeding behaviors participate in supporting physical and psychomotor growth. The aims of this study were to describe of maternal behavior in providing complementary food in infants aged 6-24 months in the Working Area of Central Health Care Rowosari Semarang City. This study was a descriptive quantitative model with cross sectional approach. Proportionate simple random sampling was used in this study. Data collection using complementary food questionnaires. The data analysis used is univariate analysis. A total of 269 respondents who had babies aged 12-24 months had participated in this study. The result showed that the majority of respondents were behaved badly when giving complementary feeding when babies are 6- 8 months (54,3%), 9-11 months (65,8%), and 12-24 months (56,9%). The greatest frequency of first-time breastfeeding when 6 months old baby was 70,3% with instant (factory-made) porridge as the first food was 67,7%. For health workers in Rowosari health centers for evaluation of educational programs, communications, and information on complementary foods.
