Abstract

The film has a role as a means of entertainment that offers various aspects of events and events to the audience, and may be a reference to behave for the audience. Sucker Punch is a film that tells about the struggle of women in overcoming male domination. We need to understand how films feature gender because 'the construction of femininity and masculinity is part of the dominant ideology'. In addition to this, that film as a medium still offers examples and blend of common behaviors and we must interpret these messages. The purpose of this research is to know how the meaning of the audience on the resistance made by character Babydoll and other women against male domination in the Sucker Punch movie. Research on the reception of women resistance in the Sucker Punch movie uses the type of qualitative research with research methods of reception analysis. The subjects of this research were both male and female audiences who had watched the Sucker Punch movie to see how the meaning of audiences against women's resistance in the Sucker Punch film to escape from male domination. The results showed that the meaning of the concept of female resistance in the film Sucker Punch informant 1 emerged from the reception focused on mimic and behavior of character Babydoll. Informant 2 emerges from acceptance that focuses on the nature of character Babydoll and the circumstances that character Babydoll does not want. Informant 3 departs from acceptance that focuses on the general behavior of women leaders. Informant 4 as the acceptance of an act of women who can think and act on the oppression experienced by women. While the meaning of the hidden resistance characteristics of the female informant 1 emerges from the scene description when the Babydoll character tells the escape plan to his friends, and the depiction of the scene when the hidden resistance that the Babydoll character and his friends do is known by Blue. Informant 2 emerged from the reception of a different scene, focusing on the scene when Babydoll told his friends about the tools needed to escape from the venue. Informant 3 departs from the fears that Babydoll and his friends are still feeling when they plan to escape from the hospital, but the plan is also known to the Blue. Informant 4 as acceptance of the Sucker Punch movie plot and portrayal of women's struggles in most other films. While the meaning of the situation of women's resistance in the film Sucker Punch informant 1 emerged from the scene description when Babydoll tried to convince his remaining friends if their plan should be done. Informant 2 emerged from the situation of the Babydoll character and the depictions of the scene at the end of the film. Informant 3 emerges from his opinion that if resistance by Babydoll figures and other women has self-interest and others. Resistance by them also has an impact for Blue Jones. Informant 4 set out from his opinion that if the resistance presented by this film has a gender interest that needs to survive from the pressure experienced by Babydoll figures and other women.
