Abstract

Background: The spirituality need was one of the basic personal needs that a person that must be met. Spiritual distress was characterized by crying, anxiety, anger, impaired appetite, sleeping difficulty, and increased blood pressure The nurse's experience is needed to overcome the problems of spiritual distress patients. Objective: To explore the nurses’ experiences in fulfilling the Islamic spiritual needs of ICU patients. Research Method: Qualitative method with descriptive approach; the samples were 6 nurses of ICU taken using purposive sampling technique; the data were collected using in-depth interviews. Analysis of data used according to Ello and Kyangas. Results: There is the role of nurses in fulfilling the spiritual needs of Islamic patients by reminding the prayer, encouraging to say istighfar, motivate patients and preparing patients and the environment for pray. The nurses, in fulfilling the spiritual, were still not consistent and there were some obstacles when fulfilling the Islamic spiritual needs. Conclusions and Suggestions: This research generated three themes, i.e. the role fulfillment of the Islamic spiritual needs by the nurses, the patient's responses after their Islamic spiritual needs were completely fulfilled, the fulfillment of the Islamic spiritual needs was done inconsistently, and the obstacles in fulfilling the Islamic spiritual needs. The nurses were expected to pay attention more to the patients’ spiritual needs in the ICU and to fulfill the Islamic spiritual needs consistently.
