Abstract
This study is based on the defense of Malay language in the development of the global community in Pontianak City. Malay language is used as a tool of community interaction in performing activities in all sectors of life in the city of Pontianak. Pontianak city is a city that has a fairly high language variations. Therefore, this study aims to explain the vitality of Malay language in the development of the global community in Pontianak City. The method used is descriptive method. Techniques in this study, namely observation techniques, participants, and record. Researchers conducted observations in several places, both in public places (markets and communities) as well as in special places (campus, office, home, and organization). Participant technique conducted by researchers to know the vitality of Malay in society in Pontianak. Records are required to obtain accuracy in the data collection in the field. The analysis shows that the vitality of Malay language plays an important role in the development of the global community in Pontianak City. In general, the Malay language is used as a means of multi-ethnic communication interaction (Malay, Dayak, Bugis, Madurese, Batak, Tionghoa, Javanese and Sundanese) in achieving their life goals. The vitality of Malay language is seen in the realm of the market and society. The use of such language is very dominant when people engage in communication interaction. Similar to the description in the public domain, in particular sphere also seen the use of Malay language is very prominent, both in the campus, home, and organization.
