Abstract

ABSTRACT Zain, Nurul Maulina Wakhidah. 2017. “Politeness Principle of Expressive Speech Act in Koukousei Resutoran Drama”. Thesis Japanese Literature Departement, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. Thesis Advisor Maharani Patria Ratna, S.S., M.Hum. This thesis studies about Politeness Principle of Expressive Speech Act in Koukousi Resutoran Drama. The aim of the research is to describe the meaning of expressive speech acts in Koukousei Resutorandrama and also to identify politeness principle contained in the expressive speech act in the drama. The data is collected from the drama using observing and note taking method. To analyze the meaning of expressive speech act and the politeness principle, the method used is distributable intralingual method. According to the result, it can be concluded that there are eight categories of meaning of expressive speech act in Koukousei Resutoran drama which are: complimenting, thanking, apologizing, forgiving, blaming, criticizing, complaining, and congratulating. In addiction to that, the expressive speech act can be juxtaposed with any kinds of politeness strategy either positive or negative. Keywords: Pragmatics, Politeness, Expressive
