Abstract

Setyadi, Andre. 2017. “A Portrait of Urbanism through the Album of Sin, City, and Memories from the Work of Silampukau: A Semiotic Study ". Thesis (S1) Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University, Semarang. Supervisor by Ken Widyawati, S.S., M.Hum. and Laura Andri R.M, S.S., M.A. Silampukau is one of the band folk Surabaya fronted by Eki and Kharis issues album Sin, City, and Memories. The song lyrics in the album is a phenomenon of urbanism and a reflection of events that authors make to portray a social portrait, especially in Surabaya. Writer choose the object was in doing research. The theory that the author uses is the theory of strata norm analysis by Roman Ingarden and semiotic theory by Charles Sanders Peirce. The use of the theory of strata norm analysis is to know the intrinsic and extrinsic elements through the norms so that it can be known the parts and relatedness. While Semiotik Peirce aims to find out the portrait of urbanism and human phenomena contained in the 5 song titles that the authors took as representing themes related to social portraits in Surabaya. The five title songs are, "Bianglala", "Bola Raya", "Lagu Rantau", "Sang Juragan", and "Si Pelanggan". Both theories above can make it easier for writers to analyze the lyrics of the song. The results of the analysis of the five poems contained in Silampukau's album of Sin, City, and Memories implicitly speak of urban society and human opposition between the capitalists and the proletariat depicted by Silampukau; For example, first on the title "Bianglala" which represents the entertainment of the lower middle class. Secondly, the title of "Bola Raya" is largely enjoyed by all societies, but it is actually the rights of the proletariat confiscated by the capitalists. Third, the "Lagu Rantau" which tells the urban people who are identical with the workers who insist on going to Surabaya. Fourth, the title "Sang Juragan" represents a fluctuating economy causing me (aku) to do everything to get rich, which is to sell alcohol. Finally, the title "Si Pelanggan" tells the story of the Dolly Alley area. The social portrait, if drawn entirely, is the question of all sections of society constructed through every sign. Key word: Lyrics, norm, semiotic, capitalist, proletarian.
