Weaning success relies heavily on the role of nurses as nursing care providers that serve patients for 24 hours. Objective: to know the experience of nurses in weaning patients from ventilator in ICU Dr Adyatma Hospital Semarang. Method: Qualitative study with phenomenology approach was performed. Four participants were selected based on purposive sampling technique with criteria of nurses who have been working in ICU RS dr Adhyatma> 1 year, had done the weaning process ventilator> 5 times and already have ICU certificate. The data retrieval were conducted by in-depth interview technique. Results: There were 5 themes: the assessment of patients in ventilator weaning is hemodynamics, respiratory, temperature, psychological factors, and nutrients; weaning can be done at any time, but more often in the morning; reintubation or weaning failure are characterized by changes in blood pressure, respiratory and diaphoresis; reintubation or weaning failure are caused by the patient's disease and age; nurses are confident to make decisions in the ventilator weaning but lack of autonomy. Conclusions and recommendations: Nurses have confidence in ventilator weaning, but they have limited autonomy. Nurses are advised continuing to develop the self-efficacy in ventilator weaning. Giving the autonomy and more responsibility to the nurse should be considered by Dr Adyatma Hospital. Keywords: Ventilator weaning, nurse experience References: 65 (1997-2016)
