URBANISASI KAWASAN PERDESAAN: PERKEMBANGAN INDUSTRI PENGOLAHAN KAYU DI KABUPATEN TEMANGGUNG

Abstract

Urbanization is a phenomenon of area transformation become urban, which is indicated by the change of demography, economy, and social condition. The changes are reflected in the raising of industrial and service activities that are followed by the change of physical form and land use of the area. Rural urbanization is activities and physical condition shift from rural to become urban form. The phenomena could be triggered due to the industrialization and agriculture transformation in rural area. The growth of wood processing industry in Temanggung District indicates the shift of agriculture activity to become industry that is parallelized with the growth of urban activities and land uses in rural area. This paper presents research result of wood industry growth in rural area of Temanggung district, and the impact of urbanization in activity and land use of rural area. The research was carried out the comparison of rural land use time series, which especially focus at the wood industry agglomeration area. The research result shows that the main component of rural urbanization process in Temanggung district is the existence of wood industry activity that triggered the growth of surrounding urban built up area. The raising of wood industry was initiated by the external investment in the area that promote the similar activities through technology and business adoption by the local entrepreneurs. The rural industrialization process is also supported by the local resources availability i.e. raw material of local timber production, competitive level of worker wage, and feasible land for factory development. The existence of local enterpreneurs capacity is also encourage the industrialization process. Physically, the spatial distribution of factories tends to be agglomerated follow regional access corridor for raw materials and products distribution, workers settlement area, and the direction from spatial planning regulation. The private initiative of wood industry development has shifted the rural people activity from agriculture to become industry. The growth has been followed by the the change of the physical spatial form of rural activites gradually became urbanized area. Industrialization process in rural area of Temanggung district corfirmed the existence of local urbanization phenomenon.
