KARAKTERISTIK POLA RUANG KOTA PINGGIRAN SUNGAI DI KOTA SIAK SRI INDRAPURA

Abstract

Siak Sri Indrapura City is one of riverside city which found since the Siak Empire (18th century). The City at eastern area of Sumatera island is a port city which build by the activity process of Siak riverside. The shape of Siak Sri Indrapura city at this present has been build by the material culture and spiritual culture from several ethnic, social classes, economic and government system in the past. Time has changed economic system, government, technology and the formed mosaics shown the symptoms of growing and spread without a right direction. These symptoms start up since this city founded as the capitol city of Siak district, as the implication of city’s spreading which sponsored by the Riau Province government. To anticipated those symptoms, need understanding about character that formed by Siak Sri Indrapura city as a riverside city, because the understanding of a character of the area that has become an own style that can be used as a consideration in developing environment, so the stakeholder won’t fell peculiar with the environment. In studying the character of this riverside city pattern, been conduct through rationalistic approachment with qualitative paradigm against research components settled to fit the objective of the research which is to asses characteristic of city pattern that shaped by physical elements as an accumulation of city planning elements like land use, mass and building shape, circulation and parking, open space, pedestrian, supporting facilities, symbol and preservation digged from three city planning theories; and non physics element based on social order as social culture and Siak people economy that effect the character shaping of Siak Sri Indrapura city pattern. Base on the research result can be known that the character city pattern shaped in Siak Sri Indrapura city actually linearly shaped because of the effect of the natural dominant element, Siak river at riverside area.
