Abstract

In this modern era, passive cooling buildings are rare to find. Semarang City, at Central Java has a building with down ventilation (passive cooling) mixed with active cooling with them, that is Katedral Church. Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) is a score that shows thermal sensation of building, which is if with this score, we can get the thermal sensation of this building. This reasearch use quantitave method wih direct measurement. Research held in 5 worship times and 9 measuring points conditioned with down ventilation opened and with church service. Dry bulb temperature, effective temperature, relative humidity, air velocity, PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) and PPD (Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied) would be measured in this research. Semarang Katedral Church was built in Dutch East Indies colonialism and inaugurated on 1940. This buliding predicted has PMV score between -1 until 0 which mean that this buiding has slightly cool to neutral thermal sensation. The conclutions of this research is 9 measuring points have neutral thermal sensation with PMV score gets near to 0 which mean Katedral Church has a neutral thermal condition and comfortable thermal condition. The measuring points where are near down ventilation (A, C, G, and I) have lower Effective Temperature and Relative Humidity from another points, and also have higher Air Velocity too. PMV score at these points shows neutral to slightly cool thermal sensation which score is lower than another measuring points. Keywords: Church, Ventilation, PMV, PPD, Thermal Comfort
