Abstract

The differences of each languages lies on its system and one of the marker of such systemnamed deixis. Deixis in each language has its own uniqueness, such as deixis that occur in the Javanese language; Semarang and Pekalongan dialects. Deixis of those languages areinteresting to investigate since they differentiate to mention third person singular (O3) and firstperson singular (O1), which contrasts with the standard Javanese language. Phrases thirdperson singular ‘deknen’ belong to the Semarang dialect, while phrases third person singular‘dekne’ and also first person singular, ‘nyong’ belong to the Pekalongan dialect. Furthermore, there are phrases like ‘nok’, ‘nang’, and ‘ndes’ to the Semarang dialect, while the Pekalongandialect have ‘kaji’, ‘koh’, and ‘tacik’. These unique phrases need further explanation becausethey do not appear on any speech context. This research examined deixis in the Javaneselanguage, Semarang and Pekalongan dialect with Pragmatic Theory. Data were obtained fromthe everyday conversation of Semarang and Pekalongan native speakers, which were recordedwithout researchers’ involvement, (SBLC technique). Results will be described with an informaltechnique.
