Abstract

In view of its function, language is the ability to communicate with others. There are significant differences between the understanding of language and speech. Languages include all forms of communication, both expressed in the form of oral, written, sign language, the language of gestures, facial expressions pantonim or art. While the speech is the spoken language is the most effective form of communication, and the most important and widely used. Language development is always increased with increasing age of the child. Parents should always pay attention to these development, because at this time, largely determines the learning process. This can be done by giving a good example, to motivate children to learn and so on. Parents are largely responsible for the success of a child's learning and should always strive to improve the potential of children in order to develop optimally. According to the study that was done prior to 1960, interest in the child's language began to arise in the first decade of the 20 th century that who pioneered by scientists in the field of psychology or pedagogy, among others, W. Stern, W. Preyer and G. Stumpf. In general, they studied the diaries of her children and then compare the results. Arises arguments about children's language acquisition. In the period after 1960 significant changes, besides due to the emergence of many figures with theory carries, also aided by advances in technology, such as the tape recorder, video equipment, attention to children's language development is increasing. With an appliance, children's language can be investigated, with a record and then analyze it. Figure - figure much investigation in this regard is W. Miller (1964), P. Menyuk (1963), R. Brown (1964), and Braine (1963). Research conducted on children's language development must not be separated from the view, hypothesis, or theory embraced psychology. On this there are several theories have challenged the development of language, such theories have natavisme, cognitivism, and behaviorism. Language development is divided into three periods, namely : Period Prelingual, Lingual Early Period and Period Differentiation. Start early period this lingual early child starts to say the word - first word which is the most amazing moment for parents. The factors that affect languages development including health, intelligence, socio-economic condition, family relationship, family size, peer relationships and personality. There are some obstacles that are often experienced by children in learning to speak, partly because of excessive crying and difficulty in understanding the content of the speech of others for children.
