Abstract

This paper discusses the politeness, the focus point of this paper is to describe the strategy ofpoliteness proposed by Brown and Levinson. In theory it was mentioned that politeness is divided into two politeness positive and negative politeness. In its application so that it can be maintained that politeness should pay attention to politeness strategies both positive andnegative. In communicating both the speaker and hearer alike must face protection so will not fail to understand and communication resulted in it being convenient. The data obtained in this paper by recording conversations informant of the third (Sunda, Brebes, and Malay) languages.Then the data was transcribed and analyzed based on the strategy of politeness. The results of the analysis were presented informally. From the study of politeness strategies show that all three languages have characteristics that vary in expressing their politeness.
