PENGGUNAAN BAHASA JAWA DIALEK BANTEN DI KALANGANMAHASISWA (STUDI KASUS PADA DUA PTN DI PROPINSI BANTEN)

Abstract

Language choice is related to language use. In multilingual community, social factors, such as speakers,topics, and context are calimed to be the reason why someone uses one language or not. Thus, Holmesintroduces some domains, they are family, friendship, religion, education and jobs as the ‘place’ for usingthe language. This writing aims to describe the students use of bahasa Jawa Dialek Banten among otherslanguages in UNTIRTA (University of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa) and IAIN Sultan Maulana HasanudinBanten. The domains will be focused on family, friendship, education, religion and jobs. Data are takenfrom questionaire distributed to students from those universities. From 70 students, sample is 21 students.The result showed that the domain of family, friendship and religion mostly used bahasa Jawa DialekBanten, while education and job tended to use bahasa Indonesia.
